What package you choose depends entirely on what you want it to do.

A good CAD software package has great interfacing capabilities and is capable of external processing and data management – how data is managed and shared for which you can use ‘Autodesk Vault’.

CAD for Injection Moulding

An excellent piece of 3D product development software, ideal for injection moulding, is Autodesk Inventor.

This software is cost effective, used throughout the industry and comes with a myriad of additional modules including:

• Mechanical engineering
• Inventor router systems
• Inventor simulations
Tooling suite (applicable for designing for injection moulded products)
• Autocad electrical

For an entry level product Autodesk Inventor LT is excellent for performing 3D product design.
