Design for Injection Moulding

To help you make accurate models ready for prototyping with us and to improve modelling efficiency, we have compiled some useful guidelines on designing products for injection moulding.

1

• Use uniform wall thicknesses throughout your designed part. Doing so will minimise sinking, stresses, warping and improve mould fill and the production times.

2

• Radius on all corners should be generous, the inside radius of corners should be a minimum of one material thickness.

3

• Use least wall thickness for production. This ensures rapid cooling, minimum shot weight and reduces production time. Overall, this will help keep part costs down too.

4

• Design all your parts to facilitate easy withdrawal from the mould by providing a taper in the direction of the mould opening or closing.

5

• To improve stiffness in bending ensure you use ribs or gussets. Doing so will avoid using the thick sections to achieve the same result. This will result in a saving on part weight, material costs and the production time.

Following these guidelines will help produce a more efficient turnaround on production and overall manufacturing.
