To help you make accurate models ready for prototyping with us and to improve modelling efficiency, we have compiled some useful guidelines on designing products for injection moulding. 1 • Use uniform wall thicknesses throughout your designed part. Doing so will minimise sinking, stresses, warping and improve mould fill and the production times. 2 • Radius on all corners should be generous, the inside radius of corners should be a minimum of one material thickness. 3 • Use least wall thickness for production. This ensures rapid cooling, minimum shot weight and reduces production time. Overall, this will help keep part costs down too. 4 • Design all your parts to facilitate easy withdrawal from the mould by providing a taper in the direction of the mould opening or closing. 5 • To improve stiffness in bending ensure you use ribs or gussets. Doing so will avoid using the thick sections to achieve the same result. This will result in a saving on part weight, material costs and the production time. Following these guidelines will help produce a more efficient turnaround on production and overall manufacturing. Rapid prototyping and up development of manufacturing solutions is our specialty.
