Investment in advanced manufacturing technology is important. But it’s the knowledge and expertise behind that technology that turns investment into real production capability.
That’s why, this September, three members of the SI Protech team travelled to ARBURG’s headquarters in Lossburg, Germany, to get hands-on with the newest addition to our shop floor.
A week at ARBURG in Lossburg
Injection Moulding Technicians Krzysztof Tchorzewski and Tomasz Perzynski joined our Technical Manager, Stewart Ray, for a highly productive week at ARBURG. The visit had two main goals:
- Inspecting our new ARBURG 630H 250-tonne injection moulding machine before it joins our production line
- Receiving practical training on the machine’s six-axis robot
Working directly with the technology – and with the specialists who design and build it – gave the team valuable hands-on experience and the chance to deepen their technical knowledge before putting it into practice at our Littlehampton facility.
Why train at the source?
Modern injection moulding cells are about far more than the press itself. Automation, robotics, process monitoring and control software all need to work together to deliver consistent, high-quality parts. Understanding how each element behaves – and how to get the best from it – is what separates a machine that simply runs from one that runs well.
Training at ARBURG means our technicians learn directly from the people who know the equipment best. They come back with practical insight into setup, robot programming, handling and optimisation that would take far longer to build on the shop floor alone.
Automation and the six-axis robot
Six-axis robots bring a high degree of flexibility to part handling. They can remove, orientate, place and present parts with precision and repeatability, which supports consistent cycle times, gentle handling of delicate components and opportunities for in-line operations. Getting the most from that flexibility depends on skilled programming and a clear understanding of the process – exactly what this training was designed to build.
What it means for our customers
For our customers, continued investment in both technology and people strengthens the manufacturing capability behind the products we produce. The new 630H adds 250 tonnes of clamping force to an ARBURG fleet that already spans 30 to 370 tonnes, supporting a wide range of component sizes on a common, proven platform.
Combined with the practical expertise needed to use it effectively, that means:
- Faster, smoother commissioning of new tools and projects
- Consistent, repeatable production supported by automation
- Greater capacity and flexibility as customer demand changes
- A team that understands the technology inside out
People, technology, capability
This visit is part of our continued focus on developing our people and strengthening our technical capability. It builds on our long-standing relationship with ARBURG – a supplier partnership recognised as a finalist at the 2025 Plastics Industry Awards – and on the culture of learning that runs through SI Protech, from apprenticeships to advanced CMM programming.
A sincere thank you to everyone at ARBURG Limited for the expert guidance and warm hospitality throughout the visit. And well done to Krzysztof, Tomasz and Stewart for a productive week of learning and development. We look forward to putting that knowledge into practice.
